This particular sword features the "Wilkinson" pattern blade which was adopted from around 1846. It was around the end of the 1800's when the Navy adopted the straighter and narrower type blade that is still seen today. With this in mind we know that it was made between 1846 and 1900 as it is the earlier, curved type. A brass proof disc has been stamped into the ricasso and there is substantial etching clearly visible on the blade. There is some rust and pitting around the tip of the blade, please see the photos for details. No makers mark can be found on the blade, but the numbers "15140" have been stamped into the spine. The ray skin grip is in great condition and the sword still retains all of the wire wrap. The leather scabbard is still intact despite the age, and while the brass fittings are somewhat loose, it is still in one piece.
While it is not in the best of condition, it is still quite reasonable and well priced.
