WWII Japanese NCO Officers sword Gunto.  This particular sword is a type 2A variation which commenced production late 1941 coupled with a relatively low sequential number I would expect production around 1942.  The blade is in generally OK condition with some discolouration, pitting , scratches and very small nicks in the edge.  It is stamped with the indentification number of 95227 with the Tokyo First Arsenal "To" inspection stamp.  The Fuchi is made of iron, and possibly due to the difficulty stamping the harder iron, most of these remained unmarked as this one does. The thumb release on the aluminium tsuka still functions as it should.  The steel scabbard is in OK condtion with quite a bit of surface rust and no paint, but has few dents as they often do after 70 or so years.  The numbers on the saya are 150006 and while not matching, the blade fits snugly and properly.  A Hachimaki (bandana) has been attached to the scabbard ring, with the Kanji for Ten Thousand Years, or as better known "Banzai".  The provenance of this is unknown.  It may or may not be period, but either way has been with the sword many years and is now part of its history.

Overall in OK condition and a good entry in to Japanese and military arms collecting.
