WWII Japanese NCO Officers sword Gunto. This particular sword is a type 1 variation which commenced production late 1938 and were produced up until April, 1941. The blade is in generally OK condition with some discolouration, pitting , scratches and small nicks in the edge. It is stamped with the indentification number of 26160 with the Tokyo First Arsenal "To" inspection stamp. The Fuchi is made of copper, and is stamped with the Iijima Swords Factory stamp, the Tokyo Arsenal Stamp and the Kokura four cannon ball identification stamp. This means that the Iijima Swords Factory made the sword (likely the blade), and was inspected (and handle assembled) by the Tokyo First Arsenal under the administration of the Kokura Arsenal. The thumb release on the aluminium tsuka still functions as it should. There is a very slight movement in the handle to blade fit, but it is difficult to tell without rigorous shaking. The steel scabbard is in OK condtion with matching numbers to the blade. The paint appears to have been done after manufacture, possibly as field service or after capture.
Overall in OK condition and a good entry in to Japanese and military arms collecting.
