The macaque (Japanese snow monkeys) know survival requires communal support. Our Winter Sun Katana mirrors the cold reality of the darkest days of the year on the tsuba (guard) and menuki. The blackened tsuba, fuchi, tsuka-ito and fuchi-kashira contrast the real white same handle and the black textured lacquered saya.
The live blade is forged from through tempered 5160 high-carbon steel for good edge retention. and excellent toughness to resist bending and twisting during heavy cutting.  The Tsuba, fuchi and kashira are constructed from strong and low maintenance patinated stainless steel, with exceptionally tight binding for longevity of the tsuka , and to withstand the rigors of martial arts training.  The painted timber scabbard features a textured finish so as not to show fingerprints, with the koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri fashioned from horn for added strength and longevity.
